Product Categories

Product Categories enable Deskworks to group your various Products for different reports. For example, if you have many different Offices, you may want to know how much you earn from all your offices in one sub-total. Or everything you make from all your types of Virtual Office Products. Or perhaps you have a unique Product Category that you want to report on…Mentors? Event Income, including food? Deskworks can manage all of it.

Product Categories are numeric codes formatted as X-XX. A good top-level structure to use is:

1-00 – Membership or Registration

2-00 – Rental Hours (reservation/day pass/usage of physical space in facility)

3-00 – Printing (copy, scan, fax, print)

4-00 – Mail Services

5-00 - Other Services (a Service being anything that does not fall into one of the above groups)

Note the Product Categories under the Membership major grouping (1-00) and the ones under Reservations (2-00).

This helps to produce the Income by Item Report and Pie Chart Graph:

To create Product Categories:

  • Go to Inventory>Product Categories

  • Click Add+ to open a new set of fields

  • In the blank fields that appear, enter the Product Category number (1-03, 4-09, etc.) into the left field; enter the name of the Category into the right-hand field

The new Category will automatically save after a moment - no need to click a “Save” button.
